1. Song: "Bloodshot Eyes" - The California Honeydrops

This week, Elliot and I were sitting at Cork & Screw when "Bloodshot Eyes" by The California Honeydrops came on. I instantly Shazamed it. Thinking this song was super old, I was shocked to find out it was released in 2021. The soulful melodies and infectious rhythms are perfect for those moments when you need a little pick-me-up. The way the brass section weaves through the vocals gives the song a timeless feel, making it an instant favorite. If you haven't given it a listen yet, you're in for a treat.

2. Drink: Vermouth + H20

Lately, I've been sipping on a delightful concoction of sparkling water and vermouth. It's my go-to when I want something simple and refreshing but without the heavy hit of alcohol. Perfect for those quiet evenings on the porch or when you're just unwinding after a long day. The blend of the effervescence with the slightly bitter, aromatic notes of vermouth is incredibly satisfying. Throw in a few olives and a slice of orange and you’re good to go!

3. Artist: Dabin Ahn

Dabin Ahn's art has completely captivated me. His work, which you can explore at dabinahn.com, is a beautiful blend of emotion and technical skill. Each piece tells a story, drawing you in with its depth and complexity. There’s something so raw and honest in his paintings that I find incredibly moving. My personal favorite is the piece with the chartreuse//olive background and the soft blue moths flying towards the light. It’s just so good, guys! If you’re an art lover, Ahn’s work is definitely worth diving into.

4. Design: The "Whimsigoth" Aesthetic Isn’t Just for Witches

Hannah Baxward's exploration of the "Whimsigoth" aesthetic invites readers into a world where elegance meets enchantment. The imagery in her post captures the essence of this unique style, showcasing a space that beautifully balances moody tones and eclectic textures.

From the plush emerald-green couch to the vintage armchair, each element speaks to a whimsical yet sophisticated vibe. The rich wooden paneling and captivating details, like the stained glass, create an atmosphere that feels both inviting and mysterious.

Baxward brilliantly illustrates that the "Whimsigoth" aesthetic transcends stereotypes, offering a timeless appeal that celebrates creativity and nostalgia. This review captures the magic of her vision, inspiring readers to embrace this enchanting style in their own homes. A must-read for anyone looking to add a touch of whimsy to their interior design.

5. Quote: Alan Watts

This week's thought-provoking quote comes from the great Alan Watts: “We do not ‘come into’ this world; we come out of it, as leaves from a tree.” This simple yet profound statement has been on my mind a lot. It’s a reminder of our intrinsic connection to the world around us, emphasizing that we are all part of something much larger. It’s a comforting and grounding thought, perfect for those moments when you need a little perspective.

6. Local Business: My Smoothie Obsession

If you’re looking for the best smoothies in Austin, The Soup Peddler has you covered. My personal obsession? The Green Monster smoothie. With kale, broccoli, spinach, banana, peanut butter, coconut water. It’s the perfect balance of earthy greens and creamy sweetness. I grab one every chance I get—it’s my go-to when I need a quick meal that keeps me energized throughout the day.

And if you’re are looking for a quick detox, I love to get just a simple green celery juice. It’s crisp, refreshing, and packed with nutrients—ideal for starting the day on a healthy note.

The Soup Peddler is definitely a top favorite so If you haven’t visited yet, now’s the time!

7. Experiences: SOLD & SOLD

One of my most recent highlights was selling two of my paintings, Lily and Heirloom, at The Cathedral during their Night Birds Ballet Show. It was such an exciting and gratifying experience to see my work appreciated in such a beautiful setting. The combination of art and ballet created a magical atmosphere, and I couldn’t be happier that these pieces are going to a very loving home. Watching people connect with my art in a space filled with so much energy and movement was truly inspiring. It felt like my work was not just being seen, but felt and understood. Moments like these remind me why I love creating art—it’s about sharing emotions, sparking conversations, and seeing how each piece can evoke something unique in every viewer. I’m so grateful for opportunities like these and look forward to creating more pieces that resonate with people on such a personal level because thats what it’s all about…
